Making Ginger Beer

Aim:

I want to find out how to (brew) make ginger beer

Research:

How to make Alcohol

How to make Ginger beer

Fermentation

Method:

Equipment:

  • Plastic Cup
  • Marker
  • Ginger powder
  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Spoon
  • Lemon juice
  • Yeast

Instructions:

  1.  Get your equipment
  2.  Get a plastic cup
  3. Put a half a tea spoon of ginger into the plastic cup
  4. Put half a cup of water into the cup
  5. Add one table spoon into the cup
  6. Mix with spoon
  7. Add five drops of lemon juice
  8. Taste it and adjust the flavour
  9. Add one quarter of a tea spoon of yeast
  10. Let it brew for one week

Results:

After a week of fermentation

It tastes like........ my dog's left overs while smelling like moulded bread and chicken with a side of barf and worms. it tasted so horrid my tongue almost killed itself. It smelt like my granddads beer factory

Discussion:

What is fermentation?

The yeast is a living think and it eats the Glucose and it makes CO2 and it also excretes alcohol.

What are the best conditions for brewing?

The normal temperatures for brewing ale is 20° to 22° and you need to keep light out of the batch of beer. You want the pH level to be either 5.2 - 5.4 so its higher then orange juice but less than distilled water so its just in a little bit less than the middle.

What is the difference between beer, cider, wine, vodka, whiskey?

Vodka is brewed for 6 years and must have at lest 40% alcohol and is brewed by potatoes,

Gymnastics (PE)

 Hello,

For the past 2 weeks we have been doing gymnastics for PE and im here to tell you about it,

First day we had PE and we joined another class doing PE so we did rotations and I started a the tramp, but that dream was short lived because we had to rotate around the gym, we did the horizontal bar, the beam, 2 parallel bars and the mini tramp

Second day, I was sick :'(

Third day luckily we did not have to join another class and because of that we had the gym all to our selfs and with no rotations so yeah that was a thing. I started at the mini tramp and stayed there for a while, then I moved onto the horizontal bar then I moved back to the mini tramp and finally moved to the tramp just to realise that the period was over.

Fourth day, Me and a girl named Shontai were the only ones to get to do gymnastics for the first 20 minutes because we did a blog post about gymnastics, soon later the others came in one by one.

Thank you for reading my blog. Bye for now.

Instructions
  1. Get your equipment
  2. Put the skittles in the Petri dish
  3. Spread the skittles out in a circle
  4. Clean your beaker
  5. dry with paper towel
  6. fill beaker half way with warm water
  7. Gently pour the water in the middle of the Petri dish so that it is half full
  8. Obverse what happens
Results:

Describe what happened?

The warm water dissolved the colour part of the skittle, and the faded colour had nowhere to go so it went to the middle of the Petri dish.

Why did the colour move the way it did?
The warm water made the hard outer shell made out of sugar dissolve

Hand's On Fire

I felt scared before my hands started burning, but when it happened I was more focused on the fire.

Why did it foam, when you mix baking soda and citric acid the atoms recombine and when you put that stuff in your mouth it fizzs and bubbles up

F.U.N Facts About Keas

 Hello,

Today in class we had to learn some CRAZY facts about Kea, and write them down and create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about Keas how AWESOME is that - ok fine i'll stop with the all caps words, anyway like i was saying we had to create a D.L.O about kea so here's my work.

The Kea is an awesome bird, I mean like a kea is just as smart as a 4 year old child! Now that’s pretty damn smart, not only is the Kea smart but their feathers are beautiful. Fun fact, the Kea is 19 inches, that's taller than my block o’ cheese!

Ok, now that i got that out of the way, let me tell you the truth… kea are endangered.

Back to the F.U.N stuff (F.U.N stands for Flamingo United Nation). Another F.U.N fact, Kea that are protected can live for more than 80 years!

Mentos and Coke

 Aim:

I want to find out what happens when you drop Mentos into Coke

Research:

Method:

Equipment
  • Coke, Coke No sugar, Sprite
  • MINT Mentos
  • Detergent
  • Beakers
  • Safety Glasses
  • Measuring Cylinder
Instructions
  1. Get your equipment
  2. Get your measuring cylinder
  3. Measure 30mls of coke into a measuring cylinder
  4. Then drop the Mentos into the measuring ctlinder
  5. Record your results
Results:
CokeCoke ZeroSprite
Height Of Bubbles90mLs76mLs73mLs

Discussion:

Why did the bubbles form?

Mentos has a rough shell, When you put the mentos in the coke or sprite the mentos reacts with the coke and makes carbon dioxide bubbles and the rising bubbles react with the carbon dioxide  still in the bottle and that creates more carbon dioxide and that causes the eruption.

Gummy Bear Osmosis

Aim:

I want to find out what happens when gummy bears are out in liquids.

Method:

Equipment:

  • Salt water (Sodium Chloride)
  • Normal water
  • Sugar water (Sucrose)
  • Gummy bears
  • 2x Petri dishes
  • Marker pen
  • Electronic Scales
  • Safety Glasses
Instructions:
  1. Get your Equipment
  2. Put on Safety Glasses
  3. Using a marker pen write your name and the conditions and the weight of gummy bear
  4. Do the experiment

Results:
The water gummy bear gained the most weight
Why?
There are little holes in gummy bears and since water molecules are small and sugar/salt molecules are big the water molecules and rush into the gummy bear while sugar/salt get blocked while trying to get into the gummy. Since the water molecules are small they don't get blocked so the gummy bear is absorbing the water molecules and it grows.

Protest

Hello!

This term we are learning about protests like women's suffrage and other protests. This blog post is about women's suffrage and the person who started the protest Kate Sheppard. Kate Sheppard was born in Liverpool, in the UK 1847. Kate grew up and married Walter Sheppard and both Kate and Walter moved to Christchurch and Kate joined the WCTU (Woman's Christian Temperance Union).

Kate wanted women to have right and to vote so Kate travelled around NZ, writing newspapers, holding public meetings and talking to members of parliament. Kate Sheppard even got the support of the prime minister!

Kate Sheppard started a petition and got 32,000 people! 32,000 just look at that number of people, like wow.

ITS FACT TIME!

NZ was the first country for women to vote.

Kate Sheppard is on the $10 note in NZ
